Biography

Leda Protopsalti (Piraeus, 24 January 1940) is a Greek actress. She was born in Piraeus in 1940 as Lydia Protopsalti and studied acting at the Drama School of the Art Theatre. Her sister is the soprano Elsa Castella. At the age of six, she went to her first audition, while at twelve, she participated in her first theatrical performance. Since then, she has made many appearances in the theatre. She was one of the founders of the troupe Vimata in 1969 and since 1974 she has been a permanent collaborator of the Stoa Theatre. She made her first film appearance at the age of ten in the film My Child Must Live. She has participated in films such as: The Devil's Socks, El Greco and The Rose of Smyrna. On television, she played in various series on EIRT, YENED and ET1. In 1995, she starred in the series The Third Crown, based on the book of the same name, playing Hecuba. She has received many awards, including the Marika Kotopouli Award in 1993, the award from the International Theatre Institute in 1997 and the First Performance Award for Euripides' Hecuba from Athinorama magazine in 2000. Also, at the 2013 Hellenic Academy Awards she was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Award for the film Joy. On private television, he has appeared in the series: A Greek, Reformatory, Marriage Bureau, Bound, Difficult Years, Nightmare, Themis is in... a Mood, Once Upon a Time: The Grocer's Beans, Little-Big, The Man Without a Face, Hippocrates Street, The Third Step, Hare Tasso Karatasos, Zoe.
